Sport: Vanuatu Rugby League confirm busy October schedule

11:54 am on 26 February 2014

Vanuatu Rugby League have locked in two test matches for later this year with hopes of more to come.

The Melanesians were thrashed 44-6 by the Sunshine Coast Falcons at the weekend.

The exhibition game was a curtain raiser to the Bulldogs v Storm NRL trial match and marked the first run-out since Vanuatu's historic tests against Solomon Islands and Niue in October.

VRL founder Dane Campbell says they're determined to build on last year's efforts and the schedule for 2014 is filling up fast.

"We're looking to play the Solomon Islands back in Mackay as a bit of a South Seas recognition - making that an annual event on the success of last year - and we've also had confirmation that the Philippines will travel to Vanuatu in October as well. There's two definite games locked in and we're also seeking the possibility to playing a game against Fiji but that will depend on what their scenario is with them getting into the Four Nations this year."
