Calls for Solomons Govt to support tourism industry

The President of the newly formed Gizo island accommodation tourism association has urged the Solomon Islands government to seriously support it's tourism industry.

The Solomon Star reports that Ivan Maike says tourism is the backbone of the country that generates revenue income for the government and resource owners.

He says most operators had been discouraged to pursue further in the industry because of lack of a support from the government.

Mr Maike says the government should prioritize it to make sure the industry in the country can expand.

He says the tourism industry will be soon replace logging and therefore the government must allocate a bigger budget for it.
