Fiji police say they have uncovered a domestic human trafficking racket involving the sale of underaged girls for sex.
The Fiji Times quotes the senior investigator at the Police's Human Trafficking Unit, Corporal Nischal Dass, as saying the girls are aged between 12 and 17.
He says the girls are typically school dropouts who in some cases have run away from their families and are staying with relatives.
But Corporal Dass says often it is these family members that are exploiting them, setting up the liaisons, and taking the money.
The Fiji Women's Crisis Centre's executive director Shamima Ali says the findings are shocking.
She says the law should come down hard on those involved.
Ms Ali says the Centre is aware of such cases and she says it can provide help for the victims.
