Reports from Fiji say Nadi Hospital is under huge pressure following a dengue fever outbreak.
Radio New Zealand International understands a doctor at the hospital, who does not want to be named, says every bed is taken and people are having to line up for hours outside Accident and Emergency to be seen by medical staff.
The doctor says some staff members have also suffered from dengue fever, which has put extra pressure on the hospital.
The sub-divisional medical officer for Nadi Hospital could not be reached for comment.
The prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, has said the number of cases of people with dengue in Fiji may have reached 4,500, while the government says the outbreak poses minimal risk for tourists.
