French Polynesia's nuclear test veterans organisation has criticised the territory's top French military commander, Rear Admiral Anne Cullere, for her alleged lack of knowledge about the weapons tests.
Moruroa e tatou issued a statement after she last week led a team of reporters to the now defunct Moruroa test site where she highlighted the rehabilitation work after testing ended in 1996.
The organisation says the military should not send officers to Tahiti with so little knowledge of what has happened in the past 30 years and who keep repeating for 30 years that there is less radioactivity in Moruroa than in Brittany.
It says it is understandable that the military hierarchy is proud of having given France the atomic bomb and probably some Polynesian share that pride.
Moruroa e tatou says while Rear Admiral Cullere appears to dislike the word victim, she forgets that the term is recognised by the French state in the law aimed at compensating test victims.
