A member of Papua New Guinea's National Alliance party has won the by-election for the Kairuku - Hiri electorate, which is on the edge of Port Moresby city.
The Post Courier reports that Peter Isoaimo was declared the winner by the Electoral Commission on Saturday night, after polling 3000 more votes than the former MP and Education minister Paru Aihi.
The by-election came after Mr Isoaimo successfully petitioned the Court of Disputed Returns to overturn the election of Mr Aihi in the 2012 national elections.
