Vodafone Fiji says it will continue to block international numbers that have been identified as the origin of hoax messages.

Fiji Times online says this comes after some of its customers recently received text messages from unknown overseas phone numbers instructing them to call those numbers to claim prizes or collect financial rewards.

Vodafone head of corporate affairs, Shailendra Prasad, says these hoax messages are sent with an intention to defraud subscribers.

Mr Prasad says they are advising all their customers not to call or text any unknown international number unless they are sure these are genuine messages.

He says the messages have been traced to originate in the European and African regions.
