No confidence vote expected soon in Niue

MPs in Niue are debating a motion of no-confidence in the government and a vote is expected shortly.

Opposition MPs entered a motion of no confidence more than a week ago because of concerns over various government policies.

There have been some delays because government members wanted to go straight to the vote - yesterday they walked out of a parliament meeting when the speaker ruled a debate must take place first.

The opposition MP Terry Coe says while they don't have the numbers to be successful they want the government to at least discuss its more controversial policies.
