The Solomon Islands parliament speaker says the legislature is steadily strengthening and becoming more participatory.
The comment from Sir Alan Kemakeza comes as he attends the biennial Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth, being held in Wellington.
He says the Solomon Islands parliament is still evolving as a democratic institution but has benefitted greatly in recent years from international partnerships.
"It's developing in many ways since we have this twin arrangement between the Solomon Islands parliament and the New South Wales state parliament as well as the UNDP programme that is strengthening the parliament."
Sir Alan Kemakeza says the country also has an effective outreach programme to educate young Solomon Islanders about parliament, and a more active parliamentary committee system.
