A former President of the Pacific Islands News Association, Patteson Mae has died at his village on Gela in the Central Islands Province of Solomon Islands.
Mr Mae died on Saturday after suffering from diabetes.
He was the Premier of the Central Islands Province until he stepped down because of ill health last March.
Patteson Mae remained an ordinary Member of the Central Islands Provincial Assembly until his death.
He began his media career as an Information Officer in 1972 and was the General Manager of the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation from 1986 to 1993, when he retired.
