Dr 'Aisake Valu Eke has been approved as Tonga's new minister of finance and national planning following the sacking of Lisiate 'Akolo.
The appointment of Dr Eke last Friday was approved by King Tupou VI on Monday, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister Lord Tu'ivakano.
Dr Eke is the people's representative for Tongatapu five to the Legislative Assembly of Tonga and a former secretary for finance and national planning, with more than 20 years of experience working in government.
He replaces Lisiate 'Akolo, who was sacked last Friday after refusing to resign after the Prime Minister asked him to step down.
