People recieving food stamps in American Samoa will have their benefits reduced by 13 percent, effective from the first of January, 2014.
Under the American Samoa Nutrition Assistance Programme, children, nursing mothers, the elderly and disabled get monthly vouchers for food.
The American Samoa Department of Human and Social Services says the 13 percent cut is necessary due to a 5% reduction in Federal funding for the programme next year.
As an example, those who were reciving $160 a month will now get $139.
