The delivery of fuel supplies and goods between several Papua New Guinea provinces has been hampered after heavy rain damaged a major bridge.

The Bora Bridge, linking the road between Lae, Madang and the Highlands Highway in Papua New Guinea was damaged over the weekend.

The bridge is located about five kilometres east of Ramu village and Ramu township and is now understood to be in danger of being washed away.

The Ramu Agri Industries Limited general manager, Jamie Graham, told the Post Courier newspaper this will affect fuel supplies and the transportation of goods including sugar and palm oil from Ramu to Lae and to the Highlands provinces.

He says urgent action is required by the Department of Works to fix the bridge so the road is made accessible.
