Papua New Guinea has been offered a high-level assurance that Australia will not use its intelligence resources to harm PNG.
The Australian foreign minister, Julie Bishop, made a comment to that effect at the Australia-PNG Ministerial Forum.
This comes after a string of reports that Australia spied on other neighbours, such as Timor Leste and Indonesia, resulting in strained relations.
Ms Bishop says her PNG counterpart, Rimbink Pato, has accepted her assurance.
He says the spying claims are a non-issue, declining to respond to allegation in the media that certain things have happened.
