The French Polynesian president, Gaston Flosse, has tabled his government's 2014 budget and castigated his predecessor for accruing debts of more than 300 million US dollars.
In an address to the territorial assembly, Mr Flosse described his budget as a sincere one, not like previous ones aimed at concealing misery.
He says because of the poor management by previous governments, the territory is now more dependent on France than it has ever been since attaining its autonomy.
In his outline, Mr Flosse says there will be no new taxes.
He says provisions have been made to pay for the departure of 300 public servants next year, but he says Paris has declined to contribute to the costs involved.
