The New Zealand foreign minister, Murray McCully, says he will discuss with the health minister if the charges for French Polynesians seeking medical help in New Zealand could be reconsidered.
Tahitinews says this follows a meeting in Papeete between Mr McCully and the French Polynesian government during which the French Polynesian health minister, Beatrice Chansin, asked if the charges being levied for medical evacuations could be reviewed.
Tahitinews also says Mr McCully highlighted to the ministers the constraints facing New Zealand as a result of the 2011 Christchurch earthquake.
The two sides reportedly agreed to hold annual top-level meetings.
His visit is the first official one of a New Zealand foreign minister in nearly nine years.
