Pitcairn Island's governor says the British territory's population needs to be boosted if the remote island is to have a sustainable future.
Vicki Treadell, who is also the British High Commissioner to New Zealand, says she is awaiting the results of a diaspora survey, which asked Pitcairn descendants what it would take for them to return to the Pacific island.
She says the population of Pitcairn has fallen to about 50 people.
"Let us be clear, Pitcairn is a small tiny island so it is never going to have a huge population but a population of 100 to 150, if we can get it back up to that, will create the right environment for sustainability."
Vicki Treadell says eco-tourism is one of the potential areas for growth and investment.
