Investigation in American Samoa into possible salary scam

10:22 pm on 26 November 2013

The American Samoa Department of Education says it is nearing the completion of an investigation into ongoing payments to a former employee.

The Samoa News broke a story two weeks ago with an unidentified employee saying she had received payments for years after resigning.

The Acting Director of Education Russ Aab says the department is close to verifying the employee, but says she has not come forward to the department.

The article reported the woman did inform the department's central office.

Mr Aab says he is not ruling out that people in other Government departments involved in payroll processing and disbursement may have colluded in the reported scam.

He says the Attorney General's Office has also begun its own investigation.
