The Papua New Guinea government says it will keep its promise to provide free education as long as it is in power.
The finance and acting education minister, James Marape, told parliament the government will expand the free education policy so all children in elementary to secondary schools receive free tuition.
Mr Marape says the cost of the tuition will be paid directly from the government to the bank accounts of each school, and said 90 percent of the schools already have accounts open and the rest will follow soon.
The Enga governor, Peter Ipatas, has asked if his province can manage the tuition fee as he says it has the capacity to run the programme.
But Mr Marape says the Education Department is not keen because it fears the money will not reach the schools on time.
