An alleged plot by Fiji's former Land Force Commander Pita Driti to remove the Bainimarama-led led government in 2010 has been revealed in a Suva court.
Fiji Village online reports Pita Driti is charged with uttering seditious comments and inciting mutiny.
A senior military officer, Lieutenant Colonel Manasa Tagicakibau, made the revelations while appearing as the first prosecution witness in the trial.
The website reports Lieutenant Colonel Tagicakibau revealed Mr Driti had spoken to him about plans to dissolve the government and to remove the President.
Mr Tagicakibau told the court the plan to remove the government would take place when the Prime Minister took his trip to Sudan to visit the troops there in late October 2010.
He told the court Mr Driti said he and Brigadier General Mohammed Aziz would go to the President and seek the dissolution of the administration.
Pita Driti allegedly told him that after the dissolution, an interim government made up of SDL party members would be set up to take the country to elections.
The trial continues today.
