In American Samoa, the former Director of Homeland Security Tuala Michael Sala has been fined 150 US dollars for careless driving causing an injury.

Tuala pled no contest to the charge in a bench trial in the District Court.

The government moved to dismiss a driving under the influence charge against Tuala after a critical report was not turned over to the defense and therefore could not be used by the prosecution.

The prosecution's key witness said a pick up truck that Tuala was driving on January the 22nd, struck him on the side while he was on the sidewalk in the village of Laulii.

Tuala was fined 150 US dollars for misdemeanor careless driving.
