French Polynesia ministerial resignation not accepted

2:47 pm on 13 November 2013

The French Polynesian presidency says the transport minister's resignation has not been accepted.

Bruno Marty resigned after being taken to hospital following a car crash on Friday night when he was driving under the influence of alcohol .

The president's office says Gaston Flosse has still not accepted his resignation and yesterday, he downplayed the incident.

He said the accident was normal given that Mr Marty worked up to 18 hours a day and didn't have a driver.

It's not known if charges will be laid.

The opposition has called on Mr Marty to quit as he is the person in charge of road safety.

Last month, hundreds of people took part in a silent march against drink driving to mark the killing of several school children by drunk drivers.
