A Tonga government delegation to China has visited several major agricultural research projects.
The delegation including the prime minister, Lord Tuivakano, has been in China for the second China - Pacific Island Countries Economic Development and Co-operation forum. in Guangzhou.
Tonga has been seeking assistance from China to develop its agriculture and the trip has included a visit to the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
The delegation toured the institution's floriculture laboratories and nurseries to look at the latest techniques for producing high quality flowers for commercial purposes.
The prime minister's office says Tonga will be able to import plant material from the Academy.
The group also saw research being conducted into banana growing where work is being done to isolate varieties for taste, shape, size and tolerance of severe weather.
They also visited a factory on the site where added-value products are developed.
