Samoa opposition critical of police over uncertainty on charges

Samoa's deputy opposition deputy leader, A'eau Peniamina, has criticised the police for the slow process in the handling of the deputy prime minister and one of his associate minister's inquiries.

Speaking to reporters, the deputy leader says the slow process by the police and their reluctance in providing a genuine response on the matter has created another problem.

A'eau was supporting the opposition leader's call for the police to provide an explanation on where the case is heading because the public is still in the dark about the associate minister's alleged refusal to take a breath test.

The Minister of Police and Prisons, Sala Fata Pinati, this week said the report on the matter has been given to him and the prime minister in which police have revealed that both the deputy prime minister, Fonotoe Nuafesili Pierre Lauofo and associate minister, Muagututagata Peter Ah Him are to be charged accordingly.

At a news conference about a trade fair in New Zealand next week, which the deputy prime minister will be attending in his capacity as the minister of trade, he did not accept questions about the opposition's concerns.
