Disruption to air service for small island group in American Samoa

5:40 pm on 7 November 2013

The Manu'a island group in American Samoa is again without an air service because the aircraft which services the group is down due to mechanical reasons.

An Inter- Island Airways official says the aircraft encountered mechanical problems last Friday at Fitiuta Airport in Manu'a and was then ferried to the main island of Tutuila over the weekend.

The airline is now awaiting aircraft parts to arrive this weekend.

The Samoa government owned Polynesian Airlines transported a patient from Manu'a to Tutuila last Friday afternoon as the local carrier was ruled out.
