Papua New Guinea's national executive council has approved the creation of a National Planning Committee, which will monitor the implementation of the budget every two weeks.

The Prime Minister will chair the meetings of the committee, the idea for which came in a submission by the Planning Minister Charles Abel.

The Minister for Public Service, Sir Puka Temu, says the Committee is tasked with ensuring that all objectives in the national budget are achieved.

"All the publicly announced projects at the national level and make sure that the funds allocated to the provincial, district and local-level governments are properly managed. And as public service minister I'm trying to make sure that the civil service is structured in such a way that we begin to align ourselves to the leadership thinking."

Sir Puka Temu says the committee will include himself and leaders of all other government coalition parties.
