Trial set for American Samoa police killing case

An American Samoan man accused of killing a police detective three years ago is set to stand trial late next year.

Siaumau Siaumau Jr. is facing a charge of first degree murder for the July 2010 shooting of police detective Lusila Brown in front of the court building in Pago Pago.

His case has been stalled in the High Court, because his lawyer has been off island for more than a year for medical treatment.

During a status hearing last Friday, the court scheduled a jury trial for November the 4th next year, although the deputy attorney general, Mitzie Jessop, has indicated the government is eager to bring this forward.
