American Samoa's Congressman Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin is in the intensive care unit of the LBJ Hospital.
The congressman was admitted a few hours after he arrived in the territory from the United States on Monday night.
He travelled to the Territory to attend the Education Summit.
Our correspondent says it's believed Faleomavaega was suffering from food poisoning.
The congressman had a heart bypass a few years ago and suffers from gout.
