Weather experts around the southwest Pacific are predicting the region will get a near average number of tropical cyclones this summer.

The Pacific cyclone season runs from November to April and over 2013/14 New Zealand's Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research says the outlook indicates between eight and 12 cyclones should occur.

The average for the region in the season is ten named tropical cyclones.
