The newly-appointed New Zealand High Commissioner to Niue says the opportunity was too good to turn down.
Superintendent Ross Ardern, currently the New Zealand Police Liasion officer for the South Pacific, will be taking over from Mark Blumsky as New Zealand's High Commissioner to Niue.
Mr Ardern says his four years as the Chief of Police in Niue are one of the highlights of his 40-year policing career, and he's anxious to get back to Niue.
He says he has the skills to continue on the work of helping to build economic sustainability through tourism in the country.
"All of our dealings now are a whole gambit of being able to manage business cases for new zealand police and to be able to put robust cases forward so that we can attract funding to do business in the Pacific, and I've had quite a lot of exposure to that in the last 8 years. So I take those transportable skills with me across to the High Commissions role."
