The main hospital in the Papua New Guinea capital, Port Moresby, is conducting another mass burial of bodies left unclaimed in its morgue for more than a month.
The director of medical services at Port Moresby General Hospital says over the past five years the number of unclaimed bodies has increased and this particular burial will be the second or third this year.
Dr David Mokela says the capacity of the morgue is 60 bodies and the hospital is forced to store additional corpses in a refrigerated container.
He says he cannot explain exactly why so many bodies are abandoned.
"Some of these cases may live much away from Port Moresby and hard to transfer the bodies - dead bodies - back home or a lot of these cases are neglected, maybe due to chronic infections such as HIV and AIDS."
Dr David Mokela says the cost of the extra refrigeration as well as coffins is putting huge pressure on the hospital.
