Treasurer says PNG to escape effects of planned cuts to AusAid

Papua New Guinea's Treasurer Don Polye says the country will escape the effects of intended cuts to Australia's foreign aid budget by the new government led by the Prime Minister, Tony Abbott.

The newspaper, The National, reports the assurance stems from talks between Mr Polye and Australia's Treasurer Joe Hockey during a meeting in Indonesia last week.

Mr Polye says Australia's rearranging of its aid policy will not affect PNG's aid grant from Australia.

PNG receives 470 million US dollars a year through the programme.

Mr Polye says there will also be no change to the financing of almost a billion dollars involved in PNG hosting Australia's asylum seekers on Manus island.
