No new licenses for public vehicles in Vanuatu

Vanuatu's Minister for Internal Affairs, Patrick Crowby, has signed a ministerial order banning the issuing of new public vehicle licenses.

The order which amends the Taxis Act means that from the beginning of next year there will be no new licenses for buses, taxis and other vehicles used for public transport.

But the Minister says new licenses will be re-issued to existing vehicles when their licenses expire.

The Daily Post newspaper reports the order is aimed at reducing heavy traffic in central Port Vila.

It will come into effect as soon as it is registered in the official Government Gazette.
