Samoa considers policy to discipline tough students

2:50 pm on 17 September 2013

The Samoa government is developing a policy to deal with bad behaviour among school students.

The government wants to put a stop to teachers dishing out corporal punishment, which is a crime in Samoa.

Samoa's Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture is working with other ministries on the policy and together with the police has undertaken training on the new Criminal Procedure Act.

The ministry's CEO, Matafeo Tanielu Aiafi, says tough students could be placed under the supervision of a village council, only returning to school once the council is satisfied with their behavior.
