CNMI minimum wage delay bill passes US House

2:52 pm on 12 September 2013

Workers on the minimum wage in the Northern Marianas will have to wait at least another year before their hourly rate increase to 6 dollars and 5 cents YS.

This comes as the U.S. House of Representatives yesterday passed a delay in the 50-cent minimum wage increase this year and in 2015.

It means the CNMI's minimum wage will remain at $5.55 an hour until the next scheduled increase, which is 2014.

Congress previously authorised a deferment in 2011.

The minimum wage will rise to 6 dollars five cents at the end of September next year, rising again in 2016, eventualy reaching 7 dollars 25 in 2018.
