Police in Papua New Guinea's province of Madang were too late to save the life of a 15-year-old female victim of the notorious criminal named 'Black Jesus' who was slain last week.

The man, whose real name is Steven Tari, was being harboured in the Gal Village area but was killed on Thursday, reportedly cut into pieces by villagers with knives.

Police travelled for hours to investigate the killing of Tari, and his follower, a 14-year-old boy.

A 15-year-old girl had been reportedly used as a sacrifice and killed on a bamboo bed on Tuesday after she was handed over to Tari.

PNG Village reports 80 men attacked Tari and the boy, killing both by cutting their legs, hands, stomach, chest and neck.

Tari was buried at the scene, while the father of the boy took his son's body to bury it himself.

The criminal had been on the run after escaping from jail, and was a notorious rapist and murderer, who was alleged to have eaten the flesh of some of his victims.
