Scientists and climate change specialists from small island states have been pitching their stories to donors meeting in Fiji this week.
The talks are being held ahead of next week's first ever joint meeting of the Pacific Climate Change Roundtable and the Pacific Platform for Disaster Risk Management.
The head meteorologist for the Marshall Islands National Weather Service, Reggie White, says their response to this year's lengthy drought was good, but there are lessons learned and room for improvement.
Regional donors are joining the conversation in Nadi, including representatives from Australia, the United States, Britain, Germany and the United Nations.
Mr White says he is happy to have come to Fiji to tell his story, and says raising awareness is worth the investment.
"The fact that I have told the story of Marshall Islands to a lot of donors and a lot of people is something that can be satisfied with. The most important thing is to tell the story and other things will fall into place."
