The Governor of the National Reserve Bank of Tonga, Siosi Mafi, has left the bank after 10 years as Governor.

The Chairman of the Bank's Board of Directors, Steve Edwards, says the Governor's contract was initially due to expire on the 31st of May this year but it was extended to the 5th of July by the Minister of Finance, Lisiate 'Akolo.

Mr Mafi was first appointed Governor in 2003 on a five-year contract, which was renewed for another five years.

Matangi Tonga online says the deputy governor Jessie Cocker is now acting governor while the bank processes applications for the position.
