7:02 pm on 18 July 2013

Fiji's prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, has told a meeting in Hong Kong that it is a myth that the South must depend fully on developed countries for technology.

Speaking at a South-South Forum on ICT and Sustainable Development, he says there is a great deal of innovation coming from the developing world.

The Fiji regime leader, who is also the Chair of the G77, says their collective agenda must seek to tackle the causes of poverty, exclusion and inequality.

He has called on members of the developing world to focus on helping ordinary people see possibilities and seize opportunities.
