160 Fiji army personnel departed for the Golan Heights Thursday night to begin their UN mission as peacekeepers.

Fiji's prime minister and army commander Commodore Frank Bainimarama stressed to the soldiers the importance of fulfilling their responsibility to Fiji and also to their families.

Fiji Village online says another 159 soldiers will leave this Sunday.

The first batch of 182 left for the Golan Heights last month.

The Fijian soldiers are being tasked with clearing the buffer zone of Syrian rebels.
