The Solomon Islands Minister of Finance and Treasury is relaxing the country's banking laws.
Rick Hou has introduced a bill in parliament to permit the Central Bank of Solomon Islands to issue interim licenses to carry out limited banking services.
Mr Hou says the bill should provide better opportunities to entrepreneurs who are keen to invest in banking.
Parliament passed the Bill after a marathon debate.
