A cigarette company in Samoa has expressed interest in doing business in American Samoa.

When officials from American Samoa met Samoa's Deputy Prime Minister Fonotoe Pierre Lauofo two months ago, they were made aware of a request by the British American Tobacco Company to supply the local market with cigarette products.

The company has a factory at Samoa's Industrial Zone in Vaitele and makes Rothmans cigarettes.

The Director of Commerce, Keniseli Lafaele, says the cigarette company is interested in supplying the American Samoa market when the British American Tobacco USA 's contract expires later this year.

Keniseli says he and the Human Resources Director Sonny Thompson informed the company rep to make a formal written submission to provide the necessary information for the appropriate agencies in American Samoa to review.
