Papua New Guinea police want to interview the opposition leader, Belden Namah, over an allegation that nearly four and a half million US dollars intended for roadworks had been misappropriated.
But Mr Namah says he welcomes the investigation and says he is the victim of a malicious government.
The newspaper, The National, has reported the money was meant for a road in West Sepik.
Mr Namah, who represents Vanimo-Green in West Sepik, says the money was spent appropriately on the sealing of 12 kilometres of road, and was lawfully applied through due processes and for the intended purpose of infrastructure development.
Mr Namah calls the allegations cheap politics and highly malicious.
