Ruling expected in Tonga case of NZ policeman's death

2:14 pm on 11 April 2013

A ruling from a preliminary inquiry into the death of a New Zealand police officer in Tonga is expected this afternoon.

Kali Fungavaka died after being arrested for drunkenness in Nuku'alofa last year.

The prosecution claim that Mr Fungavaka was beaten by five police officers and a civilian who are facing charges of manslaughter and grievous bodily harm.

The ruling will decide whether the case will go to trial at the Supreme Court.
