The passage of new Solomon Islands police legislation hailed as bringing policing in the country up-to-date has halted while a select committee works to iron out a potential constitutional conflict.
The Police Bill 2013 has passed two of three readings since its presentation to parliament last week.
It has been described as making clearer to people what to expect in their dealings with the force as well as clarifying internal issues including discipline and recruitment.
The police ministry's permanent secretary, Edmond Sikua, says the only clause in the bill being queried is section 173, which deals with responsibility for foreign police officers.
Mr Sikua says the legislation is expected to go through when parliament reconvenes on Monday.
