Papua New Guinea's Foreign Affairs Ministry has confirmed that Prince Charles won't be visiting East Sepik province during his upcoming trip as earlier claimed by Sir Michael Somare.
Sir Michael, who is the East Sepik Governor, released a statement yesterday thanking the Prime Minister Peter O'Neill for ensuring the provincial capital Wewak would be a destination for the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall during their two-day trip to PNG in November.
In 1975, Prince Charles was in Wewak for celebrations to mark PNG's independence from Australia, when Sir Michael was the country's first Prime Minister.
However PNG's Events Minister Justin Tkatchenko, who is in charge of planning the visit, says that there is no Wewak leg on the trip and that Sir Michael was misinformed due to a mistake by Foreign Affairs.
He told the AAP news agency that the Ministry has apologised to Sir Michael for the confusion.
