6:34 am on 26 July 2012

The increase of the minimum wage in Vanuatu is set to come into effect in about a week.

Vanuatu's Tripartite Labour Advisory Council has been seeking employers views on the Department of Labour proposal to increase the minimum wage by 15 percent.

The first Political Advisor in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Daniel Bule says it's been agreed to raise the monthly minimum wage from 26 thousand vatu, or about 288 US dollars to 30 thousand vatu, or about 333 US dollars a month.

He says preparations will be made on Thursday to bring the wage raise into effect.

"The Labour Department, Commission of Labour Department will prepare an order for the minister to sign and then to be sent up to state law to file an official gazette that will come into force before end of this month."
