A second woman has won a seat in Papua New Guinea's general election, with Loujaya Toni's surprise victory in Lae Open.
In an upset over the longtime incumbent, PNG's former Treasurer Bart Philemon, Ms Toni won on preferences after trailing for most of the count to become PNG's sixth woman MP since gaining independence in 1975.
A member of the Indigenous People's Party, she joins Delilah Gore of the Triumph Heritage Empowerment party, who won Sohe Open a day previously, as one of two women so far elected to parliament in this election.
In other notable results, the former Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare has won the East Sepik provincial seat almost a year after his government fell apart and parliament ousted him in a move later ruled illegal by the Supreme Court.
Sir Michael has held the seat for 44 years.
Also, the caretaker deputy Prime Minister Belden Namah has retained his Vanimo Green River Open seat, and his PNG Party is ahead in 11 of the 111 seats.
Results have been declared in around half of the electorates.
The leading party remains the People's National Congress of caretaker Prime Minister Peter O'Neill, ahead in 26 seats.
The next best, with 14, is the Triumph Heritage Empowerment party of the other major Prime Ministerial hopeful Don Polye.
Sir Michael's National Alliance leads in 7 and independents in 14.
