Fundraising is underway across the Pacific for the Samoan rugby player, Seti Tafua, who is unlikely to walk again after suffering a severe spinal injury while playing in Sydney.
The former Samoa under 20 representative was playing for the Northern Suburbs rugby club in Sydney's Shute Shield competition a week ago when he sustained a neck injury during a ruck.
The club says a televised testimonial match has been organised for next week and it hopes to play another charity match later in the year with Mr Tafua's former rugby club in New Zealand.
The high performance manager for the Samoa Rugby Union and former All Black, John Schuster, says Mr Tafua was destined to play test rugby.
"A lot of potential when he played for us. Certainly one of the players who was always destined to progress through the ranks and eventually play for our national team Manu Samoa. That was the potential he had. Certainly very sad to hear of his career ending injury."
