Fiji's military government better for business says exporter

1:58 pm on 26 June 2012

A Fiji produce exporter taking part in the inaugural Trade Pasifika in Nadi says his country's military government has made it much easier to do business.

The Pacific Trade Expo 2012 has been organised by the Pacific Island Private Sector Organisation with support from the United Nations Development Programme and other regional bodies as well as private sector representatives.

The managing director of Balthan Western and Produce Specialties Limited, Graeme Thorpe, says he hopes the three-day event will open up new markets to his companies.

He says that is something Fiji's interim government is also doing.

"So assisting the AusAid-funded programme which is established here and that's also assisting us to open up new markets. We're hoping that in the next couple of months we'll have the fresh ginger market open in Australia which we've been working on now for seven years. So things like this that take time but you need somebody to keep pushing to get things moving and this is what's happening."

Trade Pasifika finishes tomorrow.
